Dear Ms. Graham,
On behalf of our students and the
entire Department of Social Work, I would like to extend an
invitation to you or another representative
for us to have the opportunity
to publicly recognize the excellent work that
St. Vincent de
Paul does in our schools
to help in the fight against
poverty.
The Social Workers of Dufferin-Peel
Catholic District School Board have been providing quality
service to students and families in the regions of Peel,
Caledon and Dufferin for over thirty years.
Social workers within the school board have a mandate to
promote optimal student functioning. We focus on the social,
behavioral and emotional factors which impede a student's
school performance and move quickly with the school, home
and student towards a timely resolution to the difficulties
blocking success. In collaboration with our
community partners, we have delivered effective service to
thousands of students who have experienced family violence
and other victimization, parental separation, divorce, and
other losses, homelessness, poverty, addictions, cultural
isolation, mental illness and chronic absenteeism from
school.
Every year, Social Work, as a profession,
is celebrated all across Canada. This year, Social
Work Week will be celebrated during the week of March 1 – 7,
2010. The theme of our celebration in Ontario
will be “Poverty – There are Solutions. Social
Workers Make a Difference”. The goals of
Social Work Week are: to celebrate the role and contribution
of social workers; and to heighten the visibility and
profile of the profession.
This year, we are
celebrating and honoring our community partners who help us
to “make a difference” in the lives of our students and
families. Your agency immediately came to mind for a
number of reasons. DPCDSB Social Workers have enjoyed a
strong partnership with St. Vincent de Paul. More
importantly, St. Vincent de Paul has provided food and
supplies for many of our families in the Dufferin Peel
Community . Your collective contribution to the fight
against poverty has not gone unnoticed.
We, at Dufferin-Peel,
believe in encouraging and supporting those who are
willingly in the trenches with us.
We hope that you can join us on March
1, 2010 at 8:30 a.m. in the Cafeteria at the Catholic
Education Center (40 Matheson Blvd. West, Mississauga)
for our Breakfast Launch and Recognition Program.
Please come! Let us celebrate our work together.
To confirm your attendance, please contact
me at the number below or via e-mail.
